In 2016 our society lost a much loved friend and respected member, John Wilkins - ‘Dilk’, who passed away in March.
Dilk had been a stalwart member of TPADS for many years, appearing on-stage in pantomimes and musicals right up to ‘The Sound of Music’ in 2014 until he started to feel unwell. He also helped to make and paint scenery and assisted with many other tasks. “Dear Dilk, you may now not be with us in person, but you will never be forgotten and will always be loved and remembered.”
“When you walk through a storm
Hold your head up high
And don’t be afraid of the dark
At the end of the storm
There’s a golden sky
And the sweet silver song of a lark.
Walk on, walk on, with hope in your heart …
And you’ll never walk alone
You’ll never walk alone.”
The ‘DILK’ Awards
As a lasting tribute to Dilk, the society decided to implement the ‘Dilk Awards’, which would be presented to members of the society who have demonstrated outstanding contribution in a particular show or area.
The first awards were presented by Dilk himself, in January 2016, after watching performances of ‘Little Red Riding Hood’
Here is what Dilk said about the awards: “Then there is a stand out candidate from Saturday’s performance. Molly (Durant) never failed to smile and projected her voice to be heard clearly at all times and smartly presented. Loud and proud. Most impressed with Granny (Peter O’Neal) and he seems to have thrown himself into TPADS wholeheartedly”.
